416km of Sewerage Pipes and…

Mike Hampton Posted on 25th Feb 2016 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

There’s 416km of sewerage pipe in Knysna ensuring that the stuff that comes out of bums is safely disposed of. DID THAT WAKE YOU UP? Yes, i’m trying to make you Knysna folk listen to me 🙂 There’s far too little attention paid by many Knysna citizens when it comes to the important topic of maintaining our infrastructure. When it fails, there’s screaming but far too little attention paid in between… and in between is surely the most important part because prevention is better than reacting to a problem (just … Read the full article…

SANParks: Estuary Water Quality: Public Urged Not to Panic

Mike Hampton Posted on 25th Nov 2014 by Mike Hampton25th Nov 2014

The Knysna estuary is a natural system where levels of bacteria can fluctuate at any time. Authorities (SANParks, Eden District Municipality, Knysna Municipality and the Knysna Basin Project) have agreed sampling for the upcoming season must be collected … Read the full article…

This explanation allows those responsible for water provision in the province to distance themselves from the actual causes of the problem and thus dodge responsibility. The fact is, those same people and organisations were responsible for the outages and this they cannot escape. … Read the full article…

Knysna Stormwater & Sewer Connection Audit Begins

Mike Hampton Posted on 2nd May 2013 by mikehampton2nd May 2013

A door-to-door audit of Knysna’s stormwater and sewerage connections starts this week. The audit is a key project within the ongoing Knysna Estuary Pollution Action Plan, which was launched by the municipality in association with several other stakeholders last year to reduce pollution into the Knysna Lagoon. Knysna Municipal Manager Lauren Waring, who is also the chairperson of the Knysna Estuary Pollution Control Task Committee, said the audit was aimed at detecting and correcting illegal stormwater and sewer connections as well as a determining the overall status of these systems … Read the full article…
