Electricity surges like only electricity can Rates make a date with government like only government can The politicians fight in a way that makes no difference to my brother’s drug addiction, my daughter’s primary school fees, my matriculating son’s future or my stressed spouse’s opinion of me Yet I open the doors to my business everyday… plotting revised adverts and word of mouth specials to locals in the same position as me whilst wondering which staff member I will have to let go next, maybe someone in worse position than … Read the full article…

Mike Hampton Posted on 21st Jun 2017 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

What Happened to Forest Ownership?

Mike Hampton Posted on 21st Apr 2015 by Mike Hampton21st Apr 2015

In 2000 Government took a decision to phase out 45 000ha of forests in the Western and Southern Cape Region. In 2007 the VCON report recommended that 25 000ha be replanted. In 2014, Louis Hale Consultants did a study and made some recommendations to Government. The findings and recommendations of that study are still unknown to date. A gap of 7 years exists between 2007 and 2014, irrespective of pleas and recommendations from within the Forestry Sector. Because there has been no replanting, there has been no growth of new … Read the full article…

South Africa Facing Big Financial Challenges

Mike Hampton Posted on 10th Jun 2014 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

This was a speech by Gill Marcus, Governor of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), at the SAICA Business Breakfast, Rosebank (June 10 2014): Good morning and thank you for the opportunity to be with you today at this event organised by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. According to the World Economic Forum, South Africa was again ranked number one globally in strength of auditing and accounting standards. This ranking is a tribute to SAICA and to all of you here today. Unfortunately, these rankings while pleasing, are … Read the full article…
