Mike Hampton Posted on 3rd Jan 2016 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

Water urgently needed. If you’re a tourist travelling back home through Aliwal North or Colesberg, please carry a few bottles of water, anything from 300ml to 5l, so that you drop them off at any petrol station in the main road of the two towns. The roads are extremely busy so it would be a wonderful and easy help if each car had a Water Angel Driver. Aliwal has no water whatsoever and Colesberg is almost out of water. From No Water to Brown Water in Knysna

Mike Hampton Posted on 24th Dec 2015 by mikehampton1st Nov 2020

That always means a pipe broke, has been repaired, and the dirt that got in it is being washed away through your home taps. This problem was … Read the full article…

This is a press statement by Fred Nel, the DA Shadow MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs. Some have described the recent Gauteng water crisis as a ‘perfect storm’ in order to explain the severe outages across widespread areas of Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, Mogale City and Tshwane. This explanation allows those responsible for water provision in the province to distance themselves from the actual causes of the problem and thus dodge responsibility. The fact is, those same people and organisations were responsible for the outages and this they cannot escape. … Read the full article…

If you missed Part 1, find it here. HOW IT HAPPENED The profile of the drought-affected area was in alignment with the Gouritz Water Management Area (WMA). This constitutes the largest WMA in the Western Cape Province, with a total surface area of 53,1392 km (RHP, 2007(ii)). It is also characterised by two main climatic regions – an arid Karoo zone drained by the Gouritz River, as well as a narrower coastal belt south of the Outeniqua Mountains, with annual rainfall ranging from below 200mm to more than 1,000mm.
