A carcass of a Humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) washed up West of the Knoetzie River a week a ago. The team in the Knysna section of the Garden Route National Park (GRNP) have since contacted the Oceans and Coast division (Department of Environmental Affairs) and also an independent specialist based in Cape Town. ‘Burying the carcass will delay the decomposition process,’ according to Johan de Klerk, Area Manager of Knysna, SANParks. Dead Whale Washes Ashore on Noetzie Beach in Knysna

Whale sushi on special at Noetzie the whole weekend! Free smell included! That’s a message for the seagulls. For us, it’s worse when a whale dies (as compared to other sea creatures and most animals on land – in our hearts, they’re like the elephants of the sea.). This sad, majestic creature was offshore yesterday. This morning, it washed onto Noetzie Beach – R.I.P. Surrealistically, against the backdrop of a castle, the seagulls are feasting.
