The Genie in Knysna
Rob Scott was walking along the beach at Brenton-On-Sea when he stumbled across an old lamp. He picked it up, rubbed it and out popped a genie.
The genie said, “OK, Rob, you released me from the lamp…blah blah blah. This is the fourth time this month and I’m getting a little sick of these wishes so you can forget about three. So you only get one wish!”
Rob contemplated it for a while and said, “I’ve always loved The Heads and thought that the coolest thing ever would be a tunnel running under the sea from Featherbed Nature Reserve to East Head Cafe on the opposite bank. Build me that tunnel.”
The genie laughed and said, “That’s impossible! Think of the logistics of that! How would the supports ever hold the weight of that huge tide that rushes in. It’d have to be damn deep with thousands of tons of concrete and steel involved. I’d have to install train tracks just to transport the construction materials! No, think of another wish!”
Rob was disappointed but since he was a good man he simply said OK and tried to think of a really good wish that would change his life. Finally, he said, “I’ve been married and divorced 2 times. My wives always complained but most times I simply couldn’t understand why. So, I wish that I could understand women….know how they feel inside and what they’re thinking when they give me the silent treatment….know why they’re crying, know what they really want when they say ‘nothing’…….know what to answer when they ask ‘Am I fat?’…know how to make them truly happy…”
The genie asked, “Do you want that tunnel to be 1 or 2 lanes? I’ll even throw in the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe train.”
