Last year, local Sedgefield businesses got seriously competitive and super imaginative in making fantastic creations and floats for the Easter Street parade! The prize for Best Parade Creation was deservedly won by the Sedgefield Craft Brewery, Tony Hunter and his enthusiastic team.
Families and groups of friends all participated and came up with the most fantastic ideas and creations; the raft of cavorting Viking characters, the pirates of Slow Death, Sedge on Sea and their vibrant bakkie, Masithandane and their joyous teams of bands and musos, Freshstart and their recycled tortoise, Michael Wilbraham and the gang of brilliant bikers, Hospice and their royal safari couple, the Farce Side and their drama queens, jeeps galore and all the Easter kids to name just a few.
This year, organisers would once again like to invite businesses, families and friends to join the fun of the parade! But this year they want BIG, they want ‘floats’, they want ‘out the box’ thinking and creative brilliance! The theme once again this year is ‘Vintage’ but with a 50’s and 60’s focus. The challenge is on to see who can create the most sensational float! There will be great prizes for the top 3 creations.
Advertising and branding of creations/ participants will be allowed and local charities will have an opportunity to shake collection tins along the way. There will be plenty of movement, music and action!! Fantastic floats, extravagant costumes, classy sports cars, the roaring red Lions and not forgetting our famous St. James Field Marching band!
This year’s Parade is set for Sunday 27th March. All participants will meet at 12h00 at the Laerskool Sedgefield Primary sports-grounds, and the show gets on the road (literally) at 13h00 sharp.
Parade participation/Entry forms can be collected from the Sedgefield Tourism Office, the Slow Festival Committee or emailed on request (firstname.lastname@example.org) and a fee of just R50 will enter your creation in the parade. Businesses also qualify for a business listing on the Slow Festival facebook page and website, so the earlier you register, the longer the time your organisation will have a platform for your brand to be ‘out there’.
The Easter celebration with choir concert and dancing on the Village Green will end the Parade and Festival in joyous harmony. Come along and join in the fun!
