Is it logical to conclude that one person’s bacon breakfast justifies another person’s dog dinner? How is eating dogs less cruel than eating pigs, goats, lambs and cows? Anyone got meaningful opinions on culture or meat?
“Southern China has always had a tradition of dining on dogs. People from other parts of the country even joke that Southerners will eat anything with legs but the dinner table. But despite becoming more prosperous in the 1990s, Yulin has maintained the unique tradition of holding a canine banquet every summer. Animal rights activists across China and the rest of the globe have increasingly condemned the Dog Meat Festival, calling for an immediate stop to eating man’s best friend. They say the dog meat trade is illegal, unregulated, and cruel. Many claim that numerous dogs that end up in cooking pots are stolen pets or diseased strays.”
“Imagine if your pet dog was stolen and then sold for food. Unreported World went to Vietnam, where reporter Nelufar Hedayat discovered thieves steal dogs for the lucrative dog meat trade.”

Personal Note: Beyond culture, the reason why I don’t eat dog is because they’re emotional animals that would make me feel more guilty. That sad or excited look in a puppy’s eyes will tell you what I mean. For the same reason, I bet that if you’re for women’s choice, it’s easier to abort a 1-month old fetus than a 6-month old fetus (that if it were outside the womb, you’d call it “baby”). I say “more guilty” cause I only eat 2 meat meals per week, hating our industrial death factories but accepting that I need the iron and zinc in my diet. That excludes pig because they’re more like puppies and babies than cows, and cleverer than some dogs… and some South Africans 🙂 Health should also defeat culture. Carnivores carry more parasites.
Update April 23: I stopped eating meat and dairy on 1 Feb 2020. I’m not calling myself a vegan but I’m trying to see if zinc and Vitamin B supplements work. Not having spices, which I would have put on meat and eggs, has reduced my asthma. Additionally, it’s become a financial bonus as I’m broke during coronavirus, eating one tin of mixed veggies with brown rice daily. Once per week, I treat myself to wholewheat toast (with non-dairy spread) and a potato 🙂
