This will make your head SPIN.

We’re constantly hearing about how great Knysna is under the DA, as if the previous ANC Council were villains.

After you read it, in case you have the question for me, “No, i’m definitely not voting ANC in the up-coming elections.” Failing to be opposition and having their degree studies paid for by taxpayers’ cash makes the ANC as ugly as the DA in Knysna.

Additionally, i don’t share the positive vibe (below) for the ex-ANC Mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies who became the DA Speaker for Knysna – i consider being a turncoat to being questionable (and i’ve never heard her justify her reasons for it – that should have been widespread public knowledge when the DA made her their impossible-to-lose Brenton candidate).

But this is insightful, a press release from 6 years ago – if i’d replaced “ANC” with “DA”, DA supporters would have cheered. Politics is weird like that.

Never forget that i consider the DA’s first election lie to have been the expensive goodbye to then Municipal Manager Johnny Douglas. They’ve never explained that half-a-million waste. And they came to power on the promise of transparency and austerity! As far as i know, they also never prosecuted anyone from the previous administration for dirty deeds.

Knysna Municipality Officially The Third Best Performing Local Municipality

Knysna Municipality has been named the third best performing local municipality in a recent national survey. Municipal Manager Johnny Douglas said that the survey was undertaken by Municipal IQ, a specialised local government data and intelligence service.

“Municipal IQ has recently released its fourth annual set of scores on its Municipal Productivity Index (MPI™). This index combines different types of data to measure how productive the average resident of a South African municipality can be,” explained Douglas.

“The MPI calculates five factors: poverty levels and the municipal response to poverty; access to a minimum level of municipal services; economic “intelligence” (infrastructure used by residents to participate in the economy); financial governance and expenditure levels by a local council; and vacancy rates in a municipality,” Douglas continued.

Mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies said she was very happy with this achievement. “Council always keeps the best interest of our residents in mind when debating issues and making decisions. It is gratifying to know that according to statistics, we have reached this goal,” she said. “I have to thank the administration for effectively implementing the decisions made by Council.”

Douglas concluded by thanking the municipality’s administration and staff. “We rely heavily on the commitment and dedication of our staff. Without their efforts, our municipality would not have reached the ranking it has. Thank you to each and every one of our employees who go beyond the call of duty on a daily basis.”
