Word Crimes
Do you hate people typing on Facebook and in emails as if they were SMSing badly?
I don’t refer to those people brave enough to communicate in their second or third language (love them) but rather some young adults who purposely abuse your first language with their laziness. I’m not referring to practicalities such as “please” becoming “plse” or fun such as “LOL” but more mangled forms that question, for example, whether it is really your child that’s trying to communicate with you.
If you, like me, shudder at speech degradation a.k.a. short message syndrome, you’re going to love “Weird Al” Yankovic performing ‘Word Crimes’, a parody of Robin Thicke’s song ‘Blurred Lines’. That’s the video above.
It’s also a fun way to start your Sunday.
I filed this post under the ‘Inspiration and Motivation’ category in the vague hope of the guilty changing their ways.
PS: Thanks to Marylou for sending me the video link – awesome!
